The Automotive Laboratory is a modern laboratory that provides an applied education and research environment for students within the Transportation Technologies and Intelligent Automotive Systems Research Center at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Istanbul Okan University. The laboratory enables students to understand the fundamental disciplines of automotive technologies and to gain experimental experience across a broad range of topics, from engine systems to vehicle dynamics.
The educational infrastructure of the laboratory includes experimental setups designed to help students learn the operation of key automotive engineering systems. The internal combustion engine experiment setup allows students to examine engine operating principles, power curves, and performance analysis in a hands-on manner. In addition, simulation and analysis studies conducted using real engine examples such as the Fiat Ducato diesel engine simulator and the Fiat Scudo engine provide students with in-depth knowledge of engine control, fuel system behavior, and mechanical interactions.
This laboratory not only delivers theoretical knowledge but also offers practical activities that develop students’ abilities in measurement, data acquisition, system analysis, and engineering problem solving within real application environments. Active experiments—including engine parameterization, emission control analysis, thermodynamic efficiency calculations, and vehicle dynamics evaluation—contribute to preparing students as engineers capable of addressing real-world automotive challenges.
The Automotive Laboratory provides a contemporary learning environment that equips students with competencies in the design, analysis, and optimization of automotive systems while offering interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Through this environment, students are supported in developing research capabilities, project development skills, and industry-oriented competencies in the field of automotive engineering.
Transportation Technologies and Intelligent Automotive Systems Application and Research Centre is also used as an automotive laboratory.
