In today’s business environment, the contemporary understanding of competition has brought integrated marketing communication—one of the new dimensions of marketing—to the forefront. This approach emphasizes the necessity of positioning the right person at the right place and time, equipped with appropriate communication and marketing skills. Accordingly, sectoral expectations have made it essential for qualified human resources in the field of public relations and advertising to possess both strong theoretical knowledge and practical expertise.

Istanbul Okan University aims to prepare its students as distinguished and competitive individuals in the business world by enriching its educational approach with both structural frameworks and practical applications, ensuring that their career journeys—beginning upon graduation—are successfully sustained.

One reflection of this approach is the involvement of business leaders and leading industry representatives in courses during the education period, where they share their professional experience with students through hands-on practices. In line with this vision, our department has established collaborations with industry professionals and, starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, has implemented the “Branded Courses” model, in which courses are co-developed and delivered with professionals. Within this framework, courses such as Brand and Story Design in collaboration with Brand Story Agency, Research Methods in Communication with MAXQDA, Writing Techniques in Public Relations with Essance Istanbul, and Product Placement and Brand Integration with 3P Agency are offered.

From the perspective of companies, this approach provides the opportunity to engage with our students during their development phase through internships and practice-based courses conducted within our department. In this way, distinguished companies in our country gain the advantage of identifying and evaluating talented young individuals who will shape their future, enabling them to make informed recruitment decisions.

The Department of Public Relations and Advertising embraces building strong connections with the industry as a core component of its educational approach, in line with Istanbul Okan University’s vision of being “The University Closest to the Business World.”

Within this framework, numerous events are organized either directly by our department or in collaboration with various academic and administrative units of the university. Through talks, panels, workshops, and hands-on activities featuring industry professionals, our students gain the opportunity to directly engage with and discuss current dynamics in fields such as digital communication, brand management, media, journalism, advertising, corporate communication, data analytics, and cultural communication.

Executives from companies, agencies, and media organizations, as well as leading scholars in the field of communication, regularly come together with our students through these events. As a result, students develop a close understanding of different sectors within the communication industry, establish direct interaction with professionals, and begin to build their professional networks during their undergraduate education.
