The mission of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising is to educate communication professionals who closely follow technological developments and digital transformation in the field of communication, think critically, act creatively, adhere to ethical values, and possess a strong sense of social responsibility. By integrating academic knowledge with industry experience, the department aims to equip its graduates with the ability to utilize data-driven communication approaches, develop strategic communication solutions, and create value at both national and international levels.

In accordance with its mission as “The University Closest to Business Life”, Istanbul Okan University carries out its educational undertaking together with the industry. Under this umbrella, the Department of Public Relations and Advertising truly gives students more than just an education — it gives them experiences and information to apply directly through partnerships with industry leaders and executives. Our students have first-hand experience in the world of work with the education they are receiving through courses taught by industry experts, applied projects, workshops and professional events.

Public relations and advertising have become rapidly transformed through digitalization, data-driven communication and artificial intelligence–supported practices. These changes are closely tracked by our department and shape an ever-evolving curriculum designed to address new trends. Apart from fundamental fields like digital communication, brand management, media relations, crisis communication, storytelling and content production in a digital environment, you will also be exposed to contemporary topics such as AI-supported practices of communication as well as data-driven strategies. In doing so, our students become equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate not only today’s communication landscape but also the ever-evolving communications ecosystem of tomorrow.

The vision of communication education in our department is to connect theory with practice. By working with industry professionals, participating in applied workshops, engaging in project-based learning and taking branded courses, students are introduced to real-world communication practices while studying.

As a department, we also coordinate academic events that bolster scholarly production and international collaboration. The International Symposium on Women in Audiovisual Culture, held in collaboration with the Department of Cinema and Television within this framework, is an institutional step moving towards creating an international academic platform for scholars, researchers and industry representatives working across media, cinema and communication.

Young students of Public Relations and Advertising department are additionally gaining from interdisciplinary collaborations with all other faculties of our university as this enables them to practice their skills in graphic design, visual communication, creative content production etc. Our programs are in consideration of academic principles so students may solidify theoretical knowledge with practical skills related to communication and marking.

At this program, the students acquire professional skills of the analysis of advertising and public relations campaigns, design of strategic communication plans, production of creative texts and communication content, maintaining media agency-client relationships. Students can tailor their studies to specific areas of public relations and advertising that interest them through a broad array of elective courses.

Students might also be interested in the university’s double major and minor options. Hide Show Description Besides, they may take on academic exchange at partner universities through the European Union’s Erasmus+ Program and get an international academic experience.

The instruction language of the department: Turkish Students, English preparatory education one year, may enter their undergraduate studies with courses supported by English. In addition, students may study a second foreign language and have the choice of German, Russian, Chinese or Arabic.
