The Message of Head of Educational Department

The main aim of Educational Science Department is to raise teachers and educational specialists, who are competent in their professions, to conduct professional teaching knowledge courses, which are necessary for teaching and upskilling in teaching, and to conduct activities ,increasing quality of education, with master degree thesis and projects.

The main aim of our department is to raise teachers ,who will work in the level of primary and secondary education. Making research in education field, arranging in service training for the administrators and teachers of primary and secondary educational institutions, providing basic education courses to students, graduated from various faculties and departments, and providing consultancy service to educational institutions takes place among the foundation aim of our department, right along with the main aim of the department,

Educational Science Department, which is within the structure of Okan University Education Faculty, consists of Psychological Counseling and Guidance, Educational Administration, Supervision, Planning and Economy and Pedagogical Formation Certificate Program.

Our department was founded in 2012 and in the same year, started to admit students to Psychological Counseling and Guidance Department . Now, 60 students in first class of PCG Department and 60 students in the second class of PCG Department, in short totally 120 students recieve education. Language of education in PCG Department is Turkish. Psychological Counseling and Guidance is one of the rare programs that provides various job opportunities to graduate students. Graduate students of PCG can work as counsellor in elementary and secondary schools, within the scope of MEB, private schools, TAF and schools, within the scope of constabulary (police department). Besides that they can work as ‘’ pedagogue’’ in Child and Family Court of Courthouse. And also they can work as ‘’ Psychological counsellor’’ in Counselling and Research Centers, Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers and Private Psycological Consultation Centers. In the case of completing their Master and doctorate educations, they can also work as academician in private and state universities.

Our Department started to admit students to Pedagogical Formation Program since September, 2012. In the academic year of 2012-2013, totally 198 students and in the academic year of 2013-2014 totally 142 students have graduated from our university. And they have been appointed to several states and districts of out country as teachers. Right now, as a part of summer school, 106 students have been registered to our formation program and they are still studying their formation program courses.

Our department gives postgraduate education in the department of Education Administration, Supervision, Planing and Economy. Non- thesis graduate programs and masters with thesis and doctorate programs of this department have been conducting.

In graduate level of our department, Double Major and Subbranch programs have been conducting. These programs are awarding systems for our successful students. And these programs are demanded great numbers of our successful students. Especially, in the case that a person register a double major program , he/she will graduate with two diploma. So he/she can have two different profession.

Erasmus Student Exchange Protocol between our department and some of the universities in European Countries has been signed in order to exchange of students. If students demand to apply these programs and have the necessary conditions, they can go to study in a contracted university for a while.

Although our department is newly opened, it is quickly improving. Educational Science Department serves to its students with competent academic staff, consists of 2 Professor, 1 Associate Professor, 5 Assistant Profesor and 2 Research Assistant.

The main goal of our department is to raise teachers that competent national, individual and Professional norms, like their profession and productive in their profession. Our principle for making this goal real is to raise education volunteers, who are interrogator, researcher,solution oriented and have skill of analytical thinking, universally appropriate understanding of science and ethical values.
