Dear Student,

Welcome to the Thesis Master’s Program.

Throughout your studies, you may receive support from the Program Chair for all academic processes and procedures. You may communicate by sending messages via the OIS (Student Information System).

For the procedures required during your enrollment, as well as the necessary forms and detailed information, please visit the website of the Graduate School. In addition, we strongly recommend that you carefully review the Graduate Education and Instruction Regulations.

Course Schedule
Course schedules are announced at the beginning of each semester under the “Announcements” section on the Graduate School website.

Course Registration Process
Within the course registration dates specified in the academic calendar, you are required to select your courses via OIS and submit them for advisor approval. Course selections that are not submitted for approval are considered invalid in accordance with the regulations. The course registration process is completed once the advisor approval is granted.

Your OIS username and password are provided in the SMS sent to you.

Program Duration
The duration of the thesis master’s program is four semesters, regardless of whether the student registers in each semester, and the program must be completed within a maximum of six semesters. Students are required to complete the courses included in the curriculum in a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of four semesters. Within this period, you must complete your coursework and prepare your thesis.

The guidelines can be accessed from the page titled “Thesis – Project Writing Rules” on the main page of the Graduate School website.

Procedures Prior to the Thesis Defense

  • Prior to the thesis defense, the student completes the thesis and submits it to the advisor. The advisor submits the thesis to the Graduate School together with an opinion stating that the thesis is eligible for defense.
  • The student submits the required number of thesis copies to the advisor before the defense.
  • The advisor must submit the Request Petition for the Formation of the Master’s Thesis Jury to the Graduate School.
  • Within seven (7) days following the notification of the jury appointment, the student must submit the thesis to the jury members and deliver the Thesis Submission Receipt to Jury Members to the Graduate School within the same period.
  • Within thirty (30) days from the date on which the decision of the Graduate School Executive Board regarding the appointment of the jury members is notified and the thesis is delivered to the jury members, the thesis defense examination must be held. For this purpose, the advisor must notify the Graduate School in writing of the examination date and time at least one week prior to the defense.

Procedures Following the Thesis Defense

  • Upon completion of the thesis defense, the jury decides by absolute majority to accept, reject, or request revision of the thesis.
  • Students whose theses are accepted are deemed successful. Within three (3) days following the thesis defense, the advisor must submit the Master’s Thesis Defense Report and the Thesis Approval Form to the Graduate School.

Graduation Process
At the graduation stage, you are required to submit the following documents to the Graduate School Secretariat. The Secretariat can be contacted via enstitusekreterligi@okan.edu.tr.

  • Thesis Approval Certificate
  • Three hardbound (cardboard-bound) copies of the thesis
  • Three CDs containing the thesis in PDF format
  • Three copies of the Thesis Data Entry Form
  • A national or international publication (including conference proceedings)
    (Applicable only to programs that require a publication; please consult your Program Chair regarding this requirement)
  • Declaration of Generative Artificial Intelligence Use
  • Plagiarism Report

Once the required documents are submitted, the graduation procedures will commence.

Graduation Ceremony
A graduation ceremony is held at the date specified in the academic calendar at the end of each academic year. To participate in the ceremony, you must complete the participation form published on the university website.
