The Structure of the Program

MENU

The Master's Program in Translation Studies at Okan University offers a postgraduate study for the students who aim at conducting translation research both in Turkey and abroad with contemporary paradigms of Translation Studies.

The program is open not only to graduates of translation and interpreting studies but also to graduates from various disciplines, from natural and social sciences to engineering, with a strong interest in translation and research.

The duration of the program is two years. Students enroll in seven courses in the first year, including translation theory, translation history, translation criticism, and applications in specialized areas, with 21 local credits (120 ECTS). In addition, the second year includes qualified thesis research that enables students to approach their topics from functional and descriptive perspectives of Translation Studies.

The program only works with Turkish-English language pairs in practical courses. For this reason, Turkish students should be proficient in English, and international students should be competent both in Turkish and English, at least at the B2 level (according to CEFR). Besides, students should certify their language proficiency with national or international exams accepted by Okan University.

In addition to the above requirements, since the department has faculty members who research translation in Russian, Chinese, and Arabic traditions, students can also have an opportunity to research translation activities between Turkish and the languages above.
